Siddipet, Inaugurating G Venkatswamy Memorial Telangana T20 League matches in
Mini Stadium here on Friday, Minister for Irrigation & Marketing T Harish Rao said Siddipet town will be transformed into a sports hub with all arrangements like flood lights and so on.
Speaking on the occasion, Harish Rao said, “I am very happy to see Siddipet hosting the TTL league matches. Thanks to HCA president Vivekanand for choosing Siddipet for the league. Conducting the league in districts gives the rural cricketers an opportunity and also encourages sports in the districts. We have developed good facilities in sports in Siddipet. Our next aim is produce top athletes. Will have floodlights in next 10 to 15 days. So we will conduct day-night matches in Siddipet. We need HCA and Vivekanand’s help for further development of cricket in Siddipet. The town is already a hub for education and medical field. Our Chief Minister is also promoting games at rural level and encouraging athletes financially,” he said.
Harish Rao recalled that late Venkatswamy was an ardent cricket lover and that was the reason why Uppal Cricket Stadium in Hyderabad was constructed.
Speaking on the occasion, HCA chief Vivek said, “We are conducting the cricket tournament for the first time in districts. Harish Rao wanted Siddipet to be the hub of sports. I am thankful to him for providing such wonderful facilities for us to conduct the matches here. We will try to conduct the Tournament every year in districts. The success of this tournament is because of the team owners and sponsors. They deserve the credit,” he said.
The matches will be held till Sunday. The first match was inaugurated between Khammam and Medak.
