Hyderabad, Oct.19 (PMI) : A Stone pelting incident took place in Nizamabad mandal on Saturday during dharna by TSRTC workers as part of Telangana Bandh. The incident took place at Dasnagar in Maklur mandal when some of the agitators attacked a bus that was proceeding for Warangal from Nizamabad. However, the police rushed to the spot and escorted the bus till the Armoor limits.
On the other hand, all the buses in Nizamabad rural and urban areas were restricted to depots as the agitators started dharna in front of bus depots.
In Parakal, the bandh is peaceful as all the traders shut down their businesses and other establishments remained closed due to the bandh. Buses were not taken out from any of the depots in the district as temporary drivers stayed away from duties. Some prominent leaders in the district were taken into custody on the early hours of the day by police.
The Bandh is continuing in Adilabad district and police started escorting buses one after one with full protection. Agitators who are staging dharna in front of depots tried to stop the buses which are coming out with escort and police taking them into custody. Police clamped Section 144 in all towns of the district.
In Warangal district, the bandh call evoked good response as the temporary drivers and conductors stayed away from duties. As a result, till around noon, only 11 buses against the total of 942 buses in the Warangal region, were operated. Meanwhile, police have taken several leaders of different political parties and student unions into custody. Some of the important leaders including BJP Warangal Urban district president Rao Padma, DCC president N Rajender Reddy, former minister Ponnala Lakshmaiah were confined to the houses by the police.
In erstwhile Khammam district too, RTC buses were confined to depots even as the police took into custody several TSRTC JAC leaders and leaders of different political parties. While rallies and dharnas were conducted across the district, the police took into custody CPI and CPM district secretaries N Nageswara Rao and B Hemanta Rao along with Congress party senior leader P Durga Prasad. In Kothagudem, CPI district secretary Sabir Pasha AITUC leader Vanga Venkat, Congress leader Y Krishna and others were taken into custody
In Karimnagar district, the bandh resulted in very few buses making their way out of the depots. In Manthani, RTC officials managed to run ten services with the help of police escort. Striking RTC worker attempted to attack a crew from the Mancherial bus depot when it arrived at Karimnagar. Police personnel present at the spot, however, rescued the crew.
