Hyderabad, June 1 (PMI): City Traffic Police was continuing its drive against drunken drivers to ensure road safety. In May, the traffic police caught 2,294 drivers, who were found driving the vehicles in drunken condition. Charge sheets were filed against them and were produced in the Metropolitan Magistrate Courts, Nampally.
The III and IV Metropolitan Magistrate Courts awarded imprisonment to 378 offenders and permanently cancelled/suspended driving licences of 220 delinquents. The Courts also imposed fine of Rs 50,06,400 on traffic violators. All the offenders convicted were sent to Chanchalguda Jail. The police said the convicts in drunken drive may face difficulties in getting govt. jobs, passport and visa clearance.
The convicts were also counseled at Traffic Training Institutes, Goshamahal and Begumpet. The drive against the drunken driving and other violations will continue for the safety of the commuters on road.
