BJP-TTDP combine vow to fight for farmers in House

Hyderabad,  Telangana BJP and TDP MLAs today reached Assembly in a rally demanding that the State government help farmers, who have lost their crops due to heavy rains.

The MLAs holding damaged saplings of paddy, cotton and others, came walking from Jagjivan Ram statue to the Assembly. BJP MLAs Dr K Laxman, G Kishan Reddy, Chintala Ramachandra Reddy, Raja Singh and MLC N Ramchander Rao and TDP State president L Ramana and MLA Sandra Venkata Veeraiah participated in the rally.

Speaking at the Assembly media point, Kishan Reddy slammed the State government for failing to give an assurance of financial assistance to the demoralized farmers. Stating that they have tabled an adjournment motion in the Assembly on the farmers’ woes, the BJP leader demanded that the government send teams of officials to the affected villages and provide assistance to the farmers after assessing crop loss.

TTDP leader Sandra Venkata Veeraiah said the farmers were cursing their fate over crop damage in the unseasonal rains and government’s apathy towards them. Alleging that some 3,200 distressed farmers had committed suicides, he slammed the State government for not providing adequate assistance to the farmers who suffered huge loss due to distribution of sub-standard seed. He also demanded that the government immediately announce Minimum Support Price for cotton.

Describing the TRS government as “anti-farmer” BJP State president K Laxman said agriculture in the State was in a great crisis due to its criminal negligence. While the farmers were groaning under natural calamities, the government was wasting time by making false promises, he said, adding that the government was foisting criminal cases against farmers, who accosted it on their problems. Laxman also declared that they would continue their fight on behalf of farmers on the floor of the House.
