13-Year-Old Dalit Girl Raped By Homeguard, 3 Women Booked For Assisting In Crime

Mandapeta (East Godavari): A police homeguard was booked along with three women for allegedly raping 13-year-old Dalit girl. The incident occurred on July 8 in Mandapeta town here in the district.
According to Circle-Inspector Geetha, 13-year-old victim, who is a native of Kurupem village in Srikakulam district, was waiting for a bus at Mandapeta bus stop to visit her relatives in Yeditha village in the mandal.
Two women — Satya and Krishna, who noticed the girl waiting alone at the bus stop, offered her help by asking her to take shelter at their house as it was already 7 pm in the evening and it was unsafe for travelling.
Trusting their words, the victim accepted the offer and decided to go along with the two women. Meanwhile, another woman named Yesamma came along with two youths and asked them to accompany the girl to the house.
As they reached the house, homeguard Ramakrishna arrived at the scene. With the help of Satya, Ramakrishna forcibly took the girl, rode to an isolated location and raped her.
After the crime, the victim was brought to the house and was locked for two days. Hearing her loud cries, the neighbours rescued her and handed her over to her relatives.
Based on a complaint from the victim, the Mandapeta police registered a case under Nirbhaya and Atrocity acts against the accused Ramakrishna and against the women — Satya, Krishnaveni and Yesamma, who tried to push her into prostitution.
