PM Modi lays foundation stone of Ahmedabad Metro Rail Project Phase-II and Surat Metro Rail Project

Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone of Ahmedabad Metro Rail Project Phase-II and Surat Metro Rail Project this morning through video conferencing.

Speaking on the occasion, Prime Minister Modi said, two economic urban centers of the country, Surat and Ahmedabad have got the gift of more than Rs 17,000 crore soon after the Uttarayan.

The Prime Minister said, the biggest feature of these Metro rail projects is that it is being implemented with the future requirements of the people. Mr Modi said that his government is working with an integrated transport approach in implementing the Metro Rail projects. The Prime Minister said, work on more than a 1000th kilometres of metro network is in progress in the country.

Praising the fast economic development in Surat and Ahmedabad, Prime Minister Modi described these two cities as the powerhouse of Atmanirbhar Bharat. Prime Minister Modi said that Surat city is the world’s 4th fastest growing city at present.

Describing Surat as the best model of Ek Bharat Shresth Bharat- Mr. Modi said that earlier 20 per cent of the population was staying in slums in Surat, but after the availability of affordable housing it has now come down to only 6 per cent.

Prime Minister Modi said that Ahmedabad, the country’s first world heritage city has also got a series of development projects like Sabarmati River Front, Kankaria Lake Front, BRTS projects etc. He said urban economic centers like Ahmedabad and Surat will get a boost after they are connected with the country’s commercial capital Mumbai through the Bullet Train project.

Mr. Modi said that Gandhinagar was once known as the city of government employees and senior citizens, but today with a host of premier educational and technology institutes, it is now building the new generation for the country.
