Yogi government’s move: Judicial inquiry ordered into violence in Sambhal, three-member committee formed

Lucknow,Nov ovember 29 (PMI) The Yogi government of Uttar Pradesh has ordered a judicial inquiry into the recent violence in Sambhal. According to the state home department, a three-member committee headed by retired High Court judge Devendra Kumar Arora has been formed to investigate the incident.

The other two committee members include former IAS officer Amit Mohan Prasad and former IPS officer Arvind Kumar Jain. The committee has been directed to submit its report within two months. The order issued by the home department on Thursday said that a comprehensive investigation into the violent incident that took place on November 24, 2024, during a survey ordered by the court in connection with the Jama Masjid-Hari Har Mandir dispute, is necessary.

The investigation will determine whether the incident was a planned conspiracy or a common criminal act. During this time, several police personnel were injured, 4 people were killed, and property was also damaged. The committee has also been given the authority to review how to bring the elements involved in the incident to justice and what steps should be taken to prevent such incidents in the future.

Today, a petition filed against the lower court’s decision on the violence in Sambhal will be heard in the Supreme Court. The petition states that the steps taken by the police and the administration were not appropriate and resulted in violence. The court will consider whether the lower court’s decision was legally correct or not and further progress can be made on this decision.

Given the recent violence in Sambhal, strict security arrangements have been made during Friday prayers today. Additional police and PAC personnel have been deployed in sensitive areas, and surveillance is being carried out through drones to avoid any untoward incident.
