PM Modi launches Pradhan Mantri Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission in Varanasi

Prime Minister Naredra Modi simultaneously inaugurated nine medical colleges in Uttar Pradesh today. Addressing a gathering in Siddharth Nagar, the Prime Minister said that this special day has brought double dose of Aarogya to the people of Uttar Pradesh and the country.

He added that the nine medical colleges have already been inaugurated from Siddharthnagar and in a few hours a gigantic health infrastructure scheme will be inaugurated from Varanasi.

The Prime Minister said that the nine medical colleges inaugurated today will enhance the health infrastructure in Purvanchal. He said that these medical colleges will add 2,500 new beds to the hospitals and over 5,000 doctors and paramedical staff will get employment opportunity.

The Prime Minister lauded the Yogi Adityanath Government for eliminating the encephalitis disease from the Purvanchal. He said,  Purvanchal will emerge as a new hub of health infrastructure.

The Prime Minister said that in the earlier governments, health facilities were never given preference in the country. He said that there was the lack of political will and political preference. Mr Modi added that the government has showcased how to announce and deliver development projects.

The Prime Minister said that the previous government in Uttar Pradesh did not cooperate with the Centre in implementing various welfare schemes. He said that the earlier government’s only motive was the welfare of its family. The Prime Minister further said that in the current government the benefits of the welfare schemes are reaching the poor.

The Prime Minister added that the previous government in Uttar Pradesh built only six medical colleges in its tenure of five years, but the Yogi Adityanath Government has delivered 16 medical colleges in the last four and half years. He further added that the work on 20 new medical colleges is under progress.

The Prime Minister further said that during the last seven years, the focus of the government had been to change the obsolete system that put hurdles in establishing new health infrastructure including the building of new medical colleges.

He added that by the year 2014, the total number of seats in medical colleges in the country was 90,000 but in the last seven years, 60,000 more seats have been added. He said that Uttar Pradesh too had only 1,900 seats in medical colleges by the year 2017, but in the last four years of the double engine government more than 1,900 new seats have already been added.

Nine districts which got medical colleges in Uttar Pradesh today are Siddharth Nagar, Jaunpur, Fatehpur, Etah, Hardoi, Ghazipur, Mirzapur, Deoria and Pratapgarh.

AIR correspondent reports that these nine medical colleges have been built with an estimated cost of 2,329 crore rupees. With this, the total number of medical colleges inaugurated in Yogi Adityanath Government during the last four and half years has risen to 16. The work to build 14 more medical colleges is underway and is expected to be completed by the year 2022-23.

The State Government has also approved establishment of medical colleges under PPP mode and 16 more medical colleges will be built under this scheme
