Hyderabad, May 24 (PMI): On May 23, sleuths of SOT-Shamshabad zone, along with Madhapur police, nabbed a notorious interstate pseudo IPS/colonel, extortionist and cheat under suspicious circumstances at FAB OYO Hotel 100 ft road at Madhapur and recovered 7.65 country-made pistol, nine live rounds and other material at the instance of the accused.
The police registered a case in Cr.no: 600/2003, under Sections 386, 467, 467, 468, 419, 420, 170, 171 IPC & Sec 25, 27 of Arms Act of Madhapur PS, Cyberabad police Commissionerate against the accused identified as Naga Raju Karthik Raghu Varma alas Karthik, son of Padda Raju, aged 25 years, residing at H.no. 1-96, Chikkala village, Veeravasram Mandal, Bheemavaram District of Andhra Pradesh. He is a native of H.no. 2-56, Aghraharam village, Tadepalligudem Mandal, West Godavari District, AP. He was posing as fake IPS officer, Army Colonel and Intelligence officer.
Previously, he was involved in several cases in Cr. No 313/2017 U/s 381 IPC Sanathnagar PS, 359/2018 U/s 406 IPC Panjagutta PS, 104/2020 u/s 420,406,419 IPC Miyapur PS, 4 454/2020 U/s 419, 420, 468, 363, 384 R/w 34 IPC RC Purarm PS, 533/2020 U/s 170,452,419,420,354 r/w 34 IPC Panjagutta PS, 72/2020 U/s 420,419 IPC Poduru PS, AP, 91/2021 u/s 363,384,419,420 IPC, SEC 25(i) Arms

The police team seized a 7.65 country-made pistol with pouch (DPSOG131)-1, nine live rounds, four Man packs, a pair of uniform (Safari), one Beret cap with IPS emblem (blue colour), three ID cards of Delhi police, two Telangana police, name badge of AVSSK Rama Raju, one pistol sling, one public announcement), one flash lamp, two Reroutes, one Back Support Belt, one pair combat shoes, two purses with name and photo of Rama Raju, three docket sheet files (two Telangana one Delhi police), seven ID Card Tags of Ministry of Defence, one of Delhi police, five Telangana police, one phone pouch, one digital stamp pad of Rama Raju, four hand cups, one leading chain, one emblem, one Hyderabad City Police officers’ Associations diary 2016, one green pen, two Arm badges, two Bar code stickers of Telangana police, one crossed sword, one Kangaroo bag, two sets of Logos/stickers of Telangana and Delhi police, four Phones including three smart phones, one keypad phone, and a cash of Rs 10,000.
Accused Naga Raju Raghu Varma alias Karthik completed schooling and Intermediate at his native village and B.A. at the SRK Degree College at Bheemavaram in 2016. Later, he came down to Hyderabad. In 2017, he worked as a cab driver at Ghouse Pasha’s Travels at Sanathnagar area where he stole a four wheeler Innova, for which a case was registered against him vide Cr.No.313/2017 u/s 381 IPC of Sanathnagar PS. In this case, he was arrested and sent to jail for six months. After coming out on bail, he worked as a bore well operator in Maharashtra for four months.
Later, he again returned to Hyderabad in 2018 and worked as a personal driver to one Radha Krishna of Varista Infocom Company at Road No.1, Banjara Hills, for three months, where he took away his owner’s Verito car along with his two associates without intimation. In this regard, a case was registered in Panjagutta PS vide Crime No.315/2018 u/sec.406 IPC.
Later in 2018, he came out on bail and joined as supervisor at Expert Security Services at Anjaiah Nagar, Gachibowli. where he met with Bikkudar Das, who is an Ex-Army officer and working in Expert Security Group and acquainted with knowledge about Army Ranks, dress, batches and other information with regards to Army, besides he came to know about the availability of uniforms of Army.
Accordingly, he purchased uniform of PARASF regiment of Major rank. Later, he went to his native place and informed his relatives and friends that he was selected as a Major in PARASF regiment and posed himself as Army officer and gathered unemployed youth and started giving army training to them by establishing Sainik Defence Training Centre illegally. The local Podur police suspected him as a fake Army officer and on discreet inquiries with Army officials,
he was arrested and sent to jail. In this regard, a case vide crime no.72/2022 U/sec. 420, 419 IPC was registered at P.S. Podur, AP State.
In the year 2020, again he came back to Hyderabad and hatched a plan to grab money from a known person Madhusudhan Rao and financially well settled. According to his plan, he along with his three associates posing themselves as Intelligence officers conducted search in the house of Madusudhan at Banjara hills and took away Rs.1 lakh from his house. In this regard, a case in Cr.No.533/2020 U/s 419, 420, 354 IPC was registered at Panjagutta PS.
After this incident, he, along with his three associates kidnapped two persons namely Srinivas Mudiraj, owner of Sri Sai Ambulance Services and his son Sai Nikhil and extorted Rs 50,000 from them by posing as an Intelligence officer. In this regard, a case was registered against them vide Crime No.454/2020 U/sec.419, 420, 468, 363, 384, r/w 34 IPC of P.S.RC Puram.
After that, he attended as VVIP guest posing himself as an Army Colonel and inaugurated “Eye Health Cart Hospital” at Madinaguda, Miyapur, for which he had taken Rs 1.3 lakh from the Management of the hospital. In this regard, a case was registered against him vide Cr. No.104/2020 u/s 420,406,419 IPC of P.S. Miyapur.
Later, the accused again came to Hyderabad on the request of his known person G. Anil Kumar. He, along with his associates — Deepak Kumar and Paila Swamy, Satyanarayana and kidnapped one Dileep Kumar from Kukatpally Forum Mall and taken him to Suryapet Bus Stop, where they robbed him of Rs 1,90,000 and left him there.
In this regard, a case in Crime No.91/2021 u/s 363,384,419,420 IPC, Sec 25(i) Arms Act of PS, KPHB was registered against them. Later, he was arrested under PD Act on May 17, 2022. He was released from the Jail in May 2022. In July 2022, he went to his native village, where he threatened one sex-worker and took Rs 50,000 from her by posing himself as Circle Inspector of P.S. Rajahmundry.
When a ganja peddler Shiva was released from jail, the accused called him to his native place in September and took him to a Hotel, where the accused interrogated him by posing himself as a police officer and took Rs 30,000 from him. Later in November, he kidnapped and threatened one Mekapati Ravishankar in Eluru district, who had collected huge amounts from unemployed youth on the pretext of providing jobs in Railway and Govt. sector, besides collecting amounts from old-aged persons for getting second marriages.
As per the request of known persons, the accused kidnapped and collected Rs 2,00,000 from Mekapati Ravishankar and also collected Rs 3,70,000 from the victims by posing himself as Inter-State Crime Branch Analytical Officer. He threatened Mekapaty Ravi Shankar and extorted him on stamp papers to register his house in the name of the victim with the help of an advocate and let him off.
Later, the accused approached the family of Ravi Shankar and threatened them that the victims are farmers and they may kill him. The family members requested the accused for solution. The accused enacted a drama of an encounter by applying the blood and flesh of chicken on the body of Ravi Shankar and videographed the entire episode.
When he was jail, the accused came in contact with Yashwanth, who was an accused in a cyber crime and gave contact of Paswan for purchasing an illegal weapon. Thus, in January this year, he went to Kunda village in Jharkhand and purchased a country-made pistol with nine rounds for the purpose of extortions and other offences. Later in March, he purchased police uniform, badges, walky-talky, police flashlight and so on.
He returned to Hyderabad on May 13, 2023 and went to Madina and purchased handcuffs, lathi, leading chain, pistol pouch and other things related to Police department and hatched a plan for kidnapping one Prasad in Hyderabad for a ransom of Rs 14 lakh and extorted Rs 30,000 initially and cheated in the guise of Inspector of Police on the request of Kumar, the complainant in the present case.
Accused Naga Raju and his associates Srisailam and Swamy cheated one Gosla Jyothishana posing as Intelligence police officer and kidnapped and extorted Gosla Jyothishana, wife of GVSD Prasad, aged 51 years, Editor, R/o Gandhinagar, Hyderabad and cheated Rs 9 lakh at Devaghar of Jharkhand State.
Accused Naga Raju alias Karthikeya previously appeared for constable and SI examinations, but failed to get the job in Police department. Later he started cheating innocent people at different places in Hyderabad by introducing him as SOT (Special operation Team) Officer to execute his plan. He moves in heavily rushed bus stops, Airports, public places in the afternoons and late night hours and commits extortion by threatening innocent people.
