No more talks while Israel bombards Gaza: Hamas

03-12-2023

GAZA CITY/ JERUSALEM: Saleh al-Arouri, the deputy head of Hamas’ political bureau, says the captive-prisoner swap talks are finished until the onslaught ends.

French President Emmanuel Macron arrives in Doha calling for “stepped-up efforts to reach a lasting ceasefire” as Israel pulls its Mossad negotiators from Qatar.

Israel’s renewed bombardment of Gaza has targeted refugee camps and left remaining hospitals overwhelmed.

At least 15,207 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza since October 7. In Israel, the official death toll stands at about 1,200.

Israeli air attacks in Gaza are targeting residential buildings and refugee camps across the Gaza Strip, including in Southern Gaza where Israel previously told Palestinians to flee.

These photographs taken from across the border show some of the destruction in Southern Gaza since Israel resumed its attacks after a temporary truce ended.

At least 13 people, including children and women, have been killed and many more injured in Israeli attacks that hit multiple homes in the Nuseirat refugee camp, in the central Gaza Strip, the Palestinian Wafa news agency is reporting.

“The victims were rushed to al-Awda Hospital in the central province of Gaza, while many others remain trapped under the rubble,” Wafa said.

According to local sources, Israeli warplanes bombed the residences of the Assar and Zaqout families in the refugee camp, leaving a minimum of 13 civilian casualties. The toll is expected to rise as rescue efforts continue to extract survivors from the debris.

Israel’s military is probing a possible Iron Dome misfire after the emergence of footage showing an interceptor missile landing in central Israel, the Times of Israel has reported.

“The possibility that an interceptor [missile] fell in the country due to a technical malfunction is being examined,” the Israeli military was quoted as saying by the newspaper.

A protest in Tel Aviv on Saturday night called for the release of the remaining captives held by Hamas in Gaza.

Irena Tati who attended the protest held a photograph of her grandson Alexander Troufanov, 28, who is being held in Gaza. Alexander’s mother, Lena Troufanov, was recently released by Hamas during an exchange of Palestinian prisoners for hostages.

The resumed protests in Tel Aviv came as Israel withdrew its Mossad negotiators from Doha, citing an “impasse”. (Int’l News Desk)
