Police in Sopore town of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district have arrested a newly recruited militant whose gun-wielding picture went viral on social media, an official said today.“A joint Naka of 22-RR/ 179-CRPF & Police Sopore was laid at Fruit Mandi crossing Sopore on Tuesday evening. During Naka checking, one individual namely Basit Najar of Sopore was apprehended and from his possession one Pistol was recovered, he said.
“On questioning, the said person revealed that he along with his associate namely Danish Mantoo of Sopore recently joined LeT outfit.”
He said that they were active in Sopore area, said the official.
The pictures of Basit Najar holding a pistol recently surfaced on social networking websites.
“FIR number 297/2016 under sections 147, 148, 149, 149, 336 RPC and FIR No. 231/2016 under sections 147, 148, 149, 149, 336 RPC already stand registered against him in Police Station Sopore,” said the official.
