Kancha Illaiah’s ‘Komatollu’ Social Smugglers’ Triggers Protest Among Vysyas

Hyderabad: Professor and Dalit thinker Kancha Illaiah landed in a fresh controversy after he released a book — ‘Samajika Smugglurlu Komatollu’ (Vysyas are social smugglers) on Sunday. This led to protests across the Telugu states of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.
Arya Vysya associations said that the title of the book is derogatory and demeaning to their community and demanded that the book be withdrawn by the professor immediately.
Addressing a press conference, International Vysya Federation working president Rajamouli Gupta said that the book penned by the professor have hurt the sentiments of the Vysya community.
Telangana state vysya chief co-ordinator Nizam Venkatesam also condemned the claims of Kancha Illaiah that Vysyas are earlier non-vegetarians and later turned vegetarians. The professor’s effigies were also burnt in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh demanding withdrawal of the book.
The book, which is originally in English with title — ‘Post Hindu India’, is translated to Telugu. The book also comprises of research contents of several communities like Kapus, Gollap Kurma, Chakali, Mala and Madiga including Brahmins.
Kancha Illaiah reacted to Vysya community saying that the word “smuggling” used in the title in not meant to sense of goods smuggling. He said that social smuggling as phrase is an economic process of exploitation where Vysyas had earned in business and but failed to invest back into society
