Israeli forces kill 51 more across Gaza

18-11-2024

GAZA CITY: Israel’s military continues to pound Gaza, killing at least 51 more Palestinians on Saturday as Israeli settlers stormed the occupied West Bank village of Beit Furik and set fire to homes and vehicles.

Two more Lebanese paramedics were killed in an Israeli drone attack on southern Nabatieh amid outrage over the killing of 12 rescuers in an air attack on a civil defence centre.

Hezbollah launched dozens of missiles and drones at Israeli military bases in the country’s north, wounding at least five people in the port city of Haifa.

Israel’s genocide in Gaza has killed at least 43,799 Palestinians and wounded 103,601 since October 7, 2023. An estimated 1,139 people were killed in Israel during the Hamas-led attacks that day, and more than 200 were taken captive.

In Lebanon, at least 3,452 people have been killed and 14,599 wounded in Israeli attacks since the war on Gaza began.

There doesn’t seem to be any let-up whatsoever in the targeting of those southern suburbs of Beirut, that area called Dahiyeh, which is often described as a Hezbollah stronghold and which once had a population of around a million people.

There’s virtually nobody there now.

People used to use the daytime to go back and check on their homes, their belongings and their businesses. But that is now increasingly difficult.

The initial Israeli strikes happened in the relatively early hours of the morning, following forced evacuation orders. And then there was another round of strikes on that area in the afternoon.

That’s not the only area that Israel has been hitting today.

There was another massive wave of strikes on the southern city of Tyre and we understand that the Israeli military has put out forced evacuation orders to at least 15 villages in southern Lebanon.

So, no sign of a let-up in what can only really be described as an escalation by Israeli forces.

The Lebanese Health Ministry is saying that at least two more medics were killed in a strike also in southern Lebanon today. That brings the death toll of rescue workers and medics just in the last two weeks to almost two dozen.

So it shows you the kind of pressure that Lebanon is under, that indeed Hezbollah is under and that the civilian populations of these areas are under.

Meanwhile, Israel has ramped up air attacks across Lebanon as its ground forces reached their deepest point in Lebanon since they invaded six weeks ago before pulling back after battles with Hezbollah fighters, Lebanese state media reported.

On Saturday, Israeli air strikes on the village of Khreibeh in the Baalbek District of eastern Lebanon killed six people including three children, and injured 11 others, the Lebanese Ministry of Public Health said.

Strikes earlier on Saturday killed two medics in south Lebanon, including one in Borj Rahal and another in Kfartebnit, and injured four other rescue workers, with two still missing, the ministry added.

Israeli air strikes also targeted areas of the southern suburbs of Beirut for a fifth consecutive day. The Israeli military has said the attacks were directed at Hezbollah infrastructure, including a weapons storage facility and a command centre.

“There is virtually nobody there now. People used to go back and check on their homes, their belongings and their businesses during the day but that has now become increasingly difficult,” he said.

He noted that the initial strikes happened around 9am. Following evacuation orders, there was another round of strikes in the afternoon. (Int’l News Desk)
