Israel continues heavy attacks on Gaza

04-12-2023

GAZA CITY: Director General of the Government Media Office in Gaza tells reporters that more than 700 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza during the last 24 hours.

The Israeli army has called on residents from certain neighborhoods in Khan Younis, southern Gaza, to evacuate as it intensifies its bombardment in the south of the strip.

Thomas White, the director of UNRWA affairs in Gaza, says one of the UN-run schools inside the besieged enclave is now in the midst of a Hepatitis A outbreak.

A 21-year-old Palestinian was shot dead this morning by Israeli forces in a raid in Qalqilya, occupied West Bank.

Israel has detained at least 60 Palestinians in overnight raids in the occupied West Bank, according to the Palestinian Prisoner’s Society.

Hamas says captive-prisoner swap talks will not resume until Israeli onslaught in Gaza ends.

Israel pulled back its negotiators from Qatar on Saturday, saying Hamas violated terms of truce agreement.

At least 15,207 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza since October 7. In Israel, the official death toll stands at about 1,200.

Foreign ministers of Gulf countries are convening in Doha ahead of a GCC summit scheduled for Tuesday with the growing crisis in Gaza expected to top the agenda.

The meeting comes three weeks after leaders from the Arab and Muslim world met in Saudi Arabia where they issued a joint statement calling for an immediate end to the war in Gaza but this time people in the Arab world expect them to take a stronger stance, says a journalist Hashem Ahelbarra.

“They are under mounting popular pressure to show that they are going to be more aggressive when it comes to a statement on Gaza,” Ahelbarra said while reporting from Doha.

“People are very concerned and angry with their leaders, saying they have not done enough to prevent this from happening and there is also a sentiment that Arab leaders have failed Palestinians,” he added.

Harrowing footage shows a Palestinian boy mourning the death of his younger brother in the besieged Gaza Strip.

Saeed Khalid Shehta, his face smeared with soot, is overwhelmed with grief as he looks down at his brother, Mohamed Khalid, whom he pulled from the rubble following an Israeli air raid.

“My dear brother, where can I get another brother like you?” Saeed cries.

“Just bury me with him,” Saeed pleads as his family covers the deceased with a shroud and prepares to carry him away.

Israel’s eight-week war on the Gaza Strip has killed at least 6,150 children, according to Palestinian health officials. (Int’l Monitoring Desk)
