Hemant Soren Sworn In As Jharkhand Chief Minister For Second Term

Hemant Soren, the executive president of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), was sworn in as the 14th Chief Minister of Jharkhand during a grand ceremony held at Morabadi Ground in Ranchi on Thursday. This marks a significant moment as it is the first time in Jharkhand’s history that an incumbent government, completing a full term, has been re-elected.

The oath was administered by Governor Santosh Gangwar in the presence of several prominent political leaders.

Prominent Leaders in Attendance

The swearing-in ceremony witnessed participation from a host of national leaders, including:

  • Congress leaders Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, and KC Venugopal.
  • West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin, RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav, and Samajwadi Party MP Akhilesh Yadav.
  • AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, MP Raghav Chadha, and Sunita Kejriwal, wife of Arvind Kejriwal.

Historic Win for JMM-Led INDIA Bloc

The JMM-led INDIA alliance secured a commanding victory in the recent Assembly elections, winning 56 out of 81 seats.

  • JMM: 34 seats ‘Congress: 16 seats’RJD: 4 seats’CPI-ML:  2 seats

  • The BJP-led NDA managed only 24 seats, with the BJP itself winning 21 seats, while its allies, AJSU Party, Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas), and JD-U, each won one seat. The Jharkhand Loktantrik Krantikari Morcha also won a seat, with its chief Jairam Kumar Mahato victorious in Dumri constituency.

Hemant Soren’s Path to Power

Hemant Soren resigned as Chief Minister on November 24, met Governor Santosh Gangwar, and staked his claim to form the government. Greeting supporters and party workers ahead of the swearing-in ceremony, he expressed gratitude for the renewed mandate to lead Jharkhand.
