Funeral held for slain Al Jazeera journalist in Gaza

GAZA CITY: Two homes in northern Gaza were struck by an Israeli attack, resulting in the deaths of 14 people and injuring others.

A funeral attended by dozens of mourners has been held for Al Jazeera cameraman Samer Abudaqa in Gaza’s southern city of Khan Younis

The Palestinian representative to the UN says “enough is enough” after the killing of Abudaqa on Friday.

Protesters call for the Israeli government to prioritise the release of captives held in Gaza after three Israeli captives were killed by the Israeli military in what was later called a mistake.

At least 18,787 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli attacks since October 7. The revised death toll in Israel stands at around 1,200.

The Qatar Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a statement has confirmed diplomatic efforts were ongoing to reach a new truce in Gaza.

“Qatar affirmed its ongoing diplomatic efforts to renew the humanitarian pause, and expressed hope for building upon the progress made to accomplish a comprehensive and sustainable agreement that would end the war, stop the bloodshed of our Palestinian brethren, and lead to serious negotiations and the launch of a political process that yields a comprehensive, permanent, and just peace in accordance with international resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative,” the statement read.

A seven-day truce between Israel and Hamas mediated by Qatar collapsed on December 1.

Israeli forces have arrested 16 Palestinians in the occupied West Bank, the Palestinian Prisoners’ Club has said in a statement.

The group said the number of people detained in the occupied territory since the war began on October 7 has now risen to 4,520.

We are getting more information on Israeli forces’ raids on two schools in northern Gaza.

Israeli media GLZ radio reported that 25 fighters were killed and “more than 50 terrorists surrendered and were transferred to Israel for questioning”.

In the past weeks, images of hundreds of Palestinian people stripped to the underwear and blindfolded have triggered widespread condemnation. Israel said they were suspected fighters, but evidence emerged that many were civilians, including medical workers and a prominent journalist.

A relatively new word in the lexicon of war is “domicide”. It describes the destruction of houses and other buildings, making the area where they once stood no longer habitable.
