Congress to give statutory status to its guarantees in first cabinet meeting

Hyderabad, Nov.29 (PMI): Congress party has decided to confer statutory status on all the six guarantees announced by it in its manifesto in the run-up to assembly elections in its first cabinet meeting after coming into power in Telangana.

AICC State incharge Manikrao Thakre, TPCC president A. Revanth Reddy and other leaders of the party took oath to implement the promises and guarantees made to the people in the elections. Congress leaders Revanth Reddy, Thakre , Anjan Kumar Yadav, Madhu Yashki, V Hanumanth Rao and others offered prayers at the Birla Mandir and a Dargah in Nampally here.

          Congress leader Sonia Gandhi assured the people of Telangana at a public meeting held in Tukkuguda on September 17 this year that her party would implement the six guarantees in Telangana after coming into power. She promised to give the women ₹.2,500 per month under its Mahalaxmi scheme, to distribute  cooking gas  cylinder for ₹500 per cylinder and to provide free travel facility in all the RTC buses of the State.

          Under Rythu Bharosa scheme announced by Sonia Gandhi, farmers and tenant farmers will be given a monetary benefit of Rs 15,000 per acre and  agricultural labourers will get Rs 12,000 per acre. The party has promised to give a bonus of Rs 500 on paddy. Under Griha Jyothi guarantee scheme, 200 units of free electricity will be provided to each family and under Indiramma housing scheme, a house site and  Rs 5 lakh will be given to the homeless families. The party has promised to give 250 square yards of house-site to all the separate Telangana activists.

          Sonia Gandhi also announced that schemes like Rajiv Arogya Bima will be implemented besides establishment of  Telangana International Schools  in every mandal. Under the Cheyutha Scheme, the party has promised to provide Rs 4,000 per month as pension. It also promised to give ₹5 lakh worth education guarantee card each to all eligible students under Yuva Vikasam  scheme.

          Even during the elections, the Congress party had widely publicised these six guarantees in its election campaign. Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge, Revanth Reddy and Bhatti Vikramarka had announced that a law on these six guarantees would be enacted in the first cabinet meeting itself after the Congress party returns to power.
