Congress President Rahul Gandhi holds hectic parleys with senior party leaders to decide Chhattisgarh CM

Congress president Rahul Gandhi held hectic parleys today with top party leaders to decide on the new Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh.

He held discussions with senior state leaders T S Singh Deo, Tamradhwaj Sahu, Bhupesh Baghel and Charan Das Mahant, who are the potential candidates, at his residence in New Delhi.

Party’s observer Mallikarjun Kharge and state in-charge for party affairs P L Punia were also present at the meeting.

Talking to media after the meeting, Mr Punia said, a Congress legislature party meeting will be held at 12 PM tomorrow and the name of new Chhattisgarh Chief Minister will be announced.

He said, the new chief minister would take oath in Raipur on Monday evening. Congress secured more than two-third majority in the 90-member Assembly with 68 seats in the polls.

Meanwhile, Rajasthan Governor Kalyan Singh has invited Congress leader Ashok Gehlot to take over as the Chief Minister.

Mr Sachin Pilot will be the Deputy Chief Minister. A party delegation had called on the Governor yesterday about the government formation.

The oath taking ceremony is expected to take place on Monday. Congress leader Kamal Nath will also take oath as the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh on Monday.

A 12-member Mizo National Front (MNF) government headed by Zoramthanga assumed office in Mizoram today.

Governor Kummanam Rajasekharan administered the oath of office and secrecy to Mr Zoramthanga at Raj Bhavan in Aizawl this afternoon.

Deputy Chief Minister Tawnluia and 10 other Ministers were also sworn-in. AIR correspondent reports that the MNF had dislodged Congress from the state by winning 26 seats in the 40-member Assembly in the recently held elections.
