BJP leaders urge DGP to take action against erring cops, help restore normalcy in Amberpet

Hyderabad, May 6 (PMI): A delegation of State BJP leaders comprising Dr K. Laxman, State unit president, Bandaru Dattatraya, former MP, G. Kishan Reddy and Chintala Ramachandra Reddy, former MLAs today met Director General of Police and submitted a memorandum about highhanded behaviour of police personnel against its MLA Raja Singh in connivance with the MIM leaders.

The BJP leaders pointed out that some MIM leaders on Sunday evening reached the site of a demolished house belonging to a minority community on Amberpet-Ramanthapur road. The owner of the house, which was demolished, had already taken compensation and gave his consent to the GHMC for demolition. Accordingly, the GHMC demolished the house for construction of a flyover on Amberpet-Ramanthapur road. But surprisingly, some MIM leaders claiming that the said house belonged to a private dargah/mosque and started re-erecting the structure and started offering prayers to which the locals made objection as the house owner had already received Rs 2,26,00,000 as compensation from the GHMC authorities. Even the MRO and the GHMC officials declared that the land belonged to government. However, the MIM people, most of them from the areas outside Amberpet, started arguing that the house and the land belonged to the Wakf Board. As the argument was going on, the MIM MLA Pasha Quadri and another Corporator started offering prayers at the site claiming that it was a mosque.

Later, a minor trouble erupted between the locals and the outsiders, who accompanied Pasha Quadri, as the outsiders started pelting stones resulting in some local people and some police officials suffering injuries. But strangely, the police, instead of chasing away the outsiders, who came there to foment trouble, took recourse to indiscriminate lathi charge against all people. Many of the local people, who were actually there to support the government and the police against the outsiders, sustained serious injuries in the lathi charge.

As a result, the local people were forced to stay indoors and were not allowed to come out. A curfew like situation was created.  Meanwhile, BJP MLC N. Ramchender Rao and MLA Raja Singh reached the spot. City Police Commissioner Anjani Kumar behaved in a high-handed manner towards the people’s representatives. The CP’s attitude and his language against T. Raja Singh were condemnable.

The BJP alleged that the Amberpet incident occurred on Sunday was due to the interference of MIM to foment communal hatred in the otherwise peaceful locality like Amberpet. BJP was surprised that when the government has undertaken an act legitimately, following the due process of law, when there was interference into the act, the police, instead of taking action against the outsiders, preferred to physically abuse local people and BJP public representatives, they added.

Therefore, the BJP leaders requested the DGP to order an inquiry into the incident and take appropriate action against all, including police officials, who misused their power and abused the local people and the public representatives. The BJP leaders demanded that the State government register a case against MIM MLA Pasha Quadri and other MIM leaders; the GHMC should demolish the make-shift structure claimed it to be a mosque and allow road-widening in that area; the Police Commissioner apologize for his rude behavior with MLA Raja Singh.

The BJP leaders urged the DGP to take immediate action and help restore peace and normalcy in the Amberpet area. (PMI)
