There was urgent need of conducting panchayat elections as period of village sarpanchas coming to an end by this month, Dr S Malla Reddy and Venkat Ramani, vice presidents of state party, said in a joint statement issued here.
They alleged that the state government was trying to delay these elections giving reasons of court cases. The BJP leader said control of 12,000 gram panchayats would go into hands of officials from elected representatives if elections are not conducted timely. Village panchayats would not get funds and it would be delayed if elections are not held as per schedule, they said and demanded the government to take initiatives for resolving court cases on this issue.
With the spirit of 73rd amendment of the Constitution , the state government should conduct panchayat raj elections immediately, the BJP leaders demanded. (PMI)
