Another honour killing shocks Mancherial Dt

Mancherial, Dec.23 (PMI): Even as the infamous honor killing of a Dalit youth Pranay in Nalgonda district for inter-caste marriage a few months ago was fresh in memory of people in the two Telugu States, another similar murder of a girl shook Mancherial district today. In this case, the victim girl was beaten and burnt alive by her angry parents in Kalamadugu village under Jinnaram mandal of Mancherial district for marrying a boy of a lower caste.
According to the information, the victim Pindi Anuradha and Ayyoru Laxman of the same village were in a love affair for some time. On December 3, the love birds reportedly eloped and got married in Arya Samaj in Secunderabad defying the girl’s parents. Enraged over the inter-caste marriage, the girl’s parents and relatives were shadowing the couple to take revenge. While the girl’s parents were waiting for a chance to physically eliminate the girl, the newly wed couple returned to the boy’s home in the village.
On Saturday, the girl’s parents reportedly raided the boy’s house and forcibly took the girl to their home and thrashed her till she fell unconscious despite intervention of the villagers. The neighbours said her father Sathaiah and brother Mahesh rained blows on her till she fell unconscious and burnt her alive in their agriculture field near Mallapur village in Nirmal district on Saturday night. Later, the accused allegedly threw her ashes in a nearby canal.
The macabre murder came to light on Sunday morning when Laxman lodged a complaint with the police.            Mancherial DCP Venugopal Rao, ACP Ghouse Baba and police personnel visited the village and took the girl’s parents into custody and interrogated them. The accused confessed to committing the gory murder as their daughter defied them and married Laxman of a lower caste. (PMI)
