West Bengal govt announces judicial inquiry into communal clashes at Baduria, Basirhat

The West Bengal government has ordered a judicial inquiry into the violence at the Basirhat Sub Division. Talking to reporters in Kolkata, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said, the probe to be headed by a sitting Calcutta High Court judge is meant to find out as to who is behind the provocation which caused arson and stone pelting in the area.

The situation in the Sub-division is reported to be tense but under control. There is a thick blanket of security, with Police and central paramilitary forces patrolling the area.

Meanwhile, the situation is tense in the Darjeeling hills as fresh violence erupted last evening. Sub-division and Block Development Offices were torched in Kurseong. Security forces are now in control of the situation. The Chief Minister has blamed the Opposition for the violence.
