TRS committed to welfare of disabled: Etala

Hyderabad,  Finance Minister Etela Rajender today said the TRS Government will not pass time with words and instead keep promises and prove its commitment in deeds.

The Finance Minister was launching Disabled Awareness Walk at People’s Plaza on the Necklace Road to I-Max Theatre to mark International Disabled Day here along with Deputy Chief Minister Mahamood Ali, Transport Minister P Mahender Reddy and officials. Cine Hero Rajasekhar and his wife Jeevitha and officials were also present.

Speaking on the occasion, the minister said the TRS government was committed for the welfare of the disabled. “This can be attributed to the participation of three ministers in the program”, he said. Rajender got nostalgic saying he has been participating in the Disabled Walk for the past 14 years. “We have visited the hostel of the disabled during statehood movement and now the TRS government was giving Rs 1,500 pension for the physically challenged and improved facilities”.

Asserting that all were equal to the government, he said they have allocated Rs 33 crore for the welfare of the disabled in the budget and funding for marriage of poor girls through “Shadi Mubarak” and “Kalyana Lakshmi”. Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao was keen on bringing in more welfare schemes for the disabled persons, he added.

Mahender Reddy said the State government was giving funds for the welfare of 59 lakh disabled persons in 31 districts. To encourage them in the sports and games, Rs 1 lakh was given to each district, he said. Deputy Chief Minister Mahamood Ali said the disabled are not single or an ignored lot in the State. “We are all one family and luckily we got a good Chief Minister. KCR Kits were being offered to women and children on delivery. KCR has set up a corporation for the disabled and implementing welfare scheme for the disabled which was equal to serving god”, he said. The Chief Minister took initiative to provide 5 per cent reservation to the disabled and  will be with the physically challenged, Ali added.
