There are No Funds to Pay RTC Employees’ Salaries—Govt Tells HC

Hyderabad, Oct.21 (PMI): The State Government today informed the high court that there are no funds to provide salaries to RTC employees who are on strike, for the month of September. The Advocate General has informed the court that due to the ongoing strike, the RTC suffered huge losses. The corporation has no funds to make payments to the striking RTC employees, he said.
The counsel for Government also said that against Rs 224 crore required for payment of salaries, the RTC has only Rs 7.5 crore with it. Due to lack of funds and loses incurred due to strike,  there is no chance now to pay salaries,  he added. He said that the strike was not legal as RTC employees defied the government orders to join duties on October 5.
It may be mentioned that the High Court had earlier directed the Government and RTC Management to pay salaries to the striking employees by Monday, today, for the month of September. The petition came up for hearing again today. The petition was posted for further hearing on October 29.
Meanwhile, the strike reached 17th day today in support of their demand for merger of the Corporation with the Government and other demands. The government is yet to call the striking RTC unions for talks despite court orders.
All the opposition parties, peoples organizations, students employees unions have extended support to RTC strike being continued.
