SRDP works in city moving at a brisk pace

Hyderabad,  Initiated by the State government to ensure a signal-free traffic movement in the city, the works for Strategic Road Development Project (SRDP) have been moving at a brisk pace. The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has taken up works for flyovers, underpasses and corridors in different parts of the city as part of the project.
Though the task constructing flyovers and underpasses on the ever busy road stretches of the city was a challenge, the progress has been brisk in association with various departments, the civic body said in a press release here on Sunday. Under the SRDP, the GHMC is proposing to spend nearly Rs.25,000 crores and come up a series of skyways, grade separators and develop major road corridors. The proposed infrastructure development, the GHMC said, would offer hassle free and signal free driving for 70 per cent of motorists in the city. Apart from relief for the next decade, the project would ensure a drop in transportation expenses by 28 per cent to 30 per cent, it said. The components of the SRDP include 54 grade separators and junctions, 111 km long elevated corridors and skyways and improvement of 166 km length of major corridors and 348 km main roads.
For the project, tender process for Rs 3,200 crore works was through and the first aspect of it in the form of Ayyappa Society Unperpass had been completed and already inaugurated, the GHMC said. This year, six more construction works are to be completed and by next year, 16 projects would be readied.
