Rains help green drive: Dy CM

Hyderabad: Deputy Chief Minister Mahamood Ali today said that nature is also cooperating, by opening up the sky, for the flagship Harithaharam program to plant saplings. Ali was participating in green drive program and planted saplings at a school of physically challenged at Malakpet.

The deputy chief minister said that the nature is conducive to go ahead with the harithaharm drive. Everyone should participate in it and plant saplings and make the green drive a great success as the saplings planted will become trees in five to 10 years and provide many advantages and benefits to the people, he said.

            It is right  time to plant saplings in houses, schools, parks, grounds, colleges and vacant places and increase green cover, Ali stated and appealed to media to give wide coverage to the preogramme. He also said that the people should participate in the green drive to route out drought, fight pollution and bring more rains for better harvesting in the state.

            Ali said that the government has taken up the harithaharam as a prestigious project to expand green cover to 33 per cent from 26 per cent. Our aim is to plant a total of 230 crore saplings over five years and this year about 40 crore saplings are being planted during third phase, the Deputy Chief Minister said. On coming to power, the TRS Government found shortage the green cover and decided to expand it in a phased manner. Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao is determined to transform the state into Green Telangana by involving the people in the plantation drive, he said.
