P.V. Sindhu enters women’s singles quarterfinals of Indonesia Open

In Badminton, ace Indian shuttler P.V. Sindhu has entered the women’s singles quarterfinal of Indonesia Open. She defeated Denmark’s Mia Blichfeldt 21-14, 17-21, 21-11 in the pre-quarter final this evening.

It was Sindhu’s third win over the World No. 13 Dane this year. -The Indian had earlier defeated Blichfeldt in straight games in the Indian Open and the Singapore Open. Sindhu will next face Japanese Nozomi Okuhara.

In the Men’s Singles pre-quarterfinal match, Kidambi Srikanth lost to Angus Ng Ka Long of Hong Kong.

In men’s doubles, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty of India lost to Marcus Fernaldi Gideon and Kevin Sukamuljo of Indonesia. In the Russian Open, former national champion Rituparna Das upset Ksenia Polikarpova while Siril Verma eased through against Miha Ivanic to reach the women’s and men’s singles quarter-finals in Vladivostok.

Das, defeated Israel’s Polikarpova 21-18, 21-7. She will now face top seed Kristy Gilmour of Scotland in the last eight round. Verma hammered Ivanic 21-11, 21-7. He has set up a quarter-final clash against Ihsan Maulana Mustofa of Indonesia.

In the Doubles events, women’s doubles top seed J Meghana and Poorvisha S Ram got the better of Anastasiia Kurdyukova and Anastassia Shapovalova 13-21, 21-12, 21-15. Meghana also advanced to the mixed doubles quarter-finals along with Dhruv Kapila as the Indian pair defeated Russian combination of Vladimir Nikulov and Anastasiia Semenova 13-21, 21-18, 22-20.
