New Delhi says use of ‘Indian-administered J&K’ by US affirms India’s position on Salahuddin

External Affairs Ministry today said the use of the term ‘Indian administered Jammu and Kashmir’ by US government merely affirms India’s position that Hizbul Mujahideen chief Syed Salahuddin has been involved in cross border terrorism.

The Ministry said in a statement that similar term has been used in the US State Department’s country reports on terrorism brought out every year in the context of cross border terrorism perpetrated on India, including between 2011 and 2013. It said India’s consistent position that the entire state of Jammu and Kashmir is an integral part of India is well known.

India has welcomed the decision of Syed Salahuddin as a Specially Designated Global Terrorist by the US administration. The Joint Statement issued on the 26th of this month after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s talks with US President Donald Trump is the strongest joint expression of the commitment of the two sides to be shoulder to shoulder in the fight against terrorism.

It called on Pakistan to ensure that its territory is not used to launch terrorist attacks on other countries.

MEA’s statement came in response to a query about the use of language in the US State department’s notification designating Syed Salahuddin as a global terrorist.
