MR Vaccine to be administered to 90 lakh children: Minister

Hyderabad : Health Minister Dr C Lakshma Reddy today exhorted the people to cooperate in banishing Measles-Rubella health problem from the State as the government was conducting a Vaccination drive for five weeks. “For this, we set a target to offer vaccination to over 90 lakh children for Measles and Rubella across the State”, he said.

The Health Minister formally launched the MR (Measles-Rubella) Vaccination drive at Raj Bhavan School here along with officials. Lakshma Reddy also administered MR Vaccine drops to Akshitha, a girl student of the school. The minister said the State government has prepared a plan to administer MR Vaccine drops to as many as 90,01,117 children in all the districts, including Hyderabad. The students between nine to 15 years should be administered MR Vaccine along with regular vaccines.

Lakshma Reddy said all the 60 lakh students in the State schools who will be administered MR Vaccine to prevent its recurrence. Officials were directed to take up the drive at the government and private schools, hospitals, Anganwadi and community centers and administer vaccine to the children. He called upon the parents and teachers not to spare any children and students in this regard and ensure they get vaccinated on time. “The Telangana State is in the forefront in health sector by strengthening the government hospitals and primary health centers”, he added.

Health Secretary Rajeshwar Tiwari and Commissioner Vakati Karuna were present.
