IJU demands

Hyderabad/Chandigarh, June 19 (Press media of india): The Indian Journalists Union (IJU) has condemned the way the Uttar Pradesh police handled the death of television Journalist Sulabh Srivastava in Pratapgarh district. Days after receiving a complaint from wife of the deceased journalist the police still maintain that he was killed in an accident.

In a statement released on Saturday IJU President K. Sreenivas Redddy and Secretary General Balwinder Singh Jammu flagged the letter written by ABP News journalist Srivastava two days before to senior police officers fearing threat to his life from liquor mafia.

Though the police registered a murder case after the wife’s complaint they seem to be probing the case still from the accident angle, the IJU leaders said.

Overall atmosphere in the State of Uttar Pradesh has become somewhat hostile to working journalists and those working against the establishment are facing increasing threats. The IJU leaders demanded impartial and thorough probe into the death of Srivastav.  (PMI)
