HC Pavey Way For New Secretariat Complex Construction

Hyderabad, June 29 :  The High Court of the State today gave its green signal for the construction of the new Secretariat complex in place of the existing one. A division bench of the HC comprising the Chief Justice of the state Justice RS Chauhan and Justice A. Abhishek Reddy dismissed a batch of five public interest litigations filed between the year 2016 to 2019 on the issue by several prominent people of the state and organisations including Congress MLC T. Jeevan Reddy and MP A. Revanth Reddy and the founder Vice President of the Telangana Jana Samithi (TJS) Prof. PL Visweswar Rao and Forum For Good governance.

The decision of the division bench has paved the way for the construction of the new secretariat complex. While pronouncing its judgement, the division bench of the High Court   has made it clear that the decision of the State Cabinet on the construction of the new secretariat complex. It agreed with the arguments of the state government on the issue that there should not be any interference of the judiciary in the policy decisions of the elected State Government. The counsel also told the High Court that the existing buildings were devoid of the requisite infrastructure and added that some of the existing buildings had reached the stage of demolition.

In their petitions, The petitioners have urged the High Court to declare the action of the State Government to demolish the existing secretariat which still has the stability of 50 to 70 years, as illegal, arbitrary, unjustified, unfair, unreasonable and unconstitutional and issue orders to restraint the state government from going ahead with its decision besides setting aside the resolution of the state cabinet.
